Preservation, research and interpretation of these objects helps communicate the lessons of history, in order that present and future visitors may learn from the past.

These museums preserve and exhibit original railroad cars, locomotives and other artifacts. Most offer interpretive school or group tours. Many also offer rides in vintage railroad cars.
